Barrie has already lost the Supervised Consumption Site / Consumption Treatment Service that the community fought so hard for. The province has now announced the closure of nine existing provincially-funded site, and one privately-funded site by March, 2025.
As medical professionals across the province have repeatedly stated (with evidence to back up these statements), this decision will cost lives, and have our communities see more preventable deaths - not to mention, an increase of open consumption, needles in parks, and all the other issues that are of concern to families in the community.
"Supervised consumption sites save lives and provide evidence-based, life-saving services and comprehensive mental health support" -- Lhamo Dolkar, RNAO President and NP
