On the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, and the 35th anniversary of the École Polytechnique Massacre, we call on the Province to prioritize the Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act
Today, on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we have joined 150 Gender-Based Violence advocacy and service delivery organizations in urging the Ontario Legislature to prioritize and pass Bill 173: Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act, 2024.
By November, 2024, there had been a total of 62 RECORDED cases of femicide in Ontario this year - it is unknown how many have gone unreported.
A year ago on this day, December 6, a similar open letter signed by 100+ organizations called on the Ontario government to declare IPV an epidemic. Since then, we have made strides with the establishment of Bill 173: Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act, 2024. Today, we are urging the Ontario legislature to prioritize and pass the Bill, formally declaring IPV an epidemic.
When do we say enough is enough when it comes to violence against women, children, trans women, 2-Spirit People and gender diverse people? For 150 organizations, that day is today.
Today, we remember. We mourn. And we come together and work for action to end Gender-Based Violence. Today, we join 150 organizations calling for an end to Intimate Partner Violence and Gender Based Violence in Ontario and urging the Ontario Legislature to prioritize and pass Bill 173: Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic Act, 2024.
