Council Follow-up, week of January 9, 2023

Updated: Jan 6

First week back after the holiday break!

General Committee

The public portion of this meeting was over by 7:30, but it seems the in camera portion went until 10:30.

The only discussion on the public items was regarding the temporary noise exemption request for 37 Johnson Street. Councillor Riepma had put together an amendment that would allow the exemption under stricter guidelines, stating that he hoped it would help the construction be complete before summer. There was a member of the audience who objected, and was directed to speak with the clerk to arrange a deputation to address his concerns before Council next week.

Councillor Kungl brought forward an item from the Circulation List – the correspondence from the Barrie Farmers' Market – to refer to the Finance and Good Governance Committee, to consider their funding request to repeat the mobile markets this summer, and consider winter expansion items.

The final result of the in camera portion of the meeting is that the CAO and Director of Legal Services are now directed to negotiate a potential land lease with YMCA Simcoe, for approximately 3 acres of property at Mapleview and Bayview. And the citizen appointments to various Boards and Committees of Council have been named:

Barrie Police Services Board: Greg Ferguson

Barrie Public Library Board: John Edwin Bicknell, George Hawtin, Merrisa Little, Austin Mitchell, Robin Munro, Michael Sauro and David (Hongxue) Zhao

Business Licensing Appeal Committee: William French, Catherine Kenwell, Stephen Kinsella, Camille Kosokowsky and Prabhat Batra

Heritage Barrie Advisory Committee: Cathy Colebatch, Debra Excel, Craig Froese, Camille Kosokowsky, Kayleigh MacKinnon, Sarah MacKinnon, Shelley Marchant, Pauline Stevenson, and Prabhat Batra

Property Standards Committee: Alex Goldstein, Stephen Kinsella, Camille Kosokowsky, Carol Phillips, Brendan Saxton

Thank you to all who put your names forward – your engagement with city governance is greatly appreciated!
