staff memo on Joint Land Needs Assessment, City seeks feedback on North Shore Trail Improvements, ITSTARTS Month

📑📊 Staff Memos

🗺️🦹 Joint Land Needs Assessment Verification of Industrial Land Needs

  • Memorandum: https://barrie.legistar.com/View.ashx?M=F&ID=13810278&GUID=6C532EF3-6BC2-43B1-A704-CFB32B930D9B from D. Brooke-Bisschop, Manager of Business Development and J. Roberts, Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Policy and Analysis

  • Staff from Corporate Asset Management, Development Services, and Economic & Creative Development met with representatives of Hemson to verify the process undertaken in its review of the data

  • Key Findings

    • Staff do not dispute Hemson's methodology

    • There were some discrepancies identified between Hemson's data and the City's assessment of 'investment ready' sites, which could allow further refinement of the net developable acreage of individual properties

    • The Province recently changed the definition of Employment Land, which put pressure on the City's existing employment areas and what will be considered employment land in the future

    • Staff receive many site requests for 20-40 ha or larger, which the City has not been able to provide, the need is for 'investment ready' lands of this size, of which the City currently has none

  • Please see EBO's Brief on this for our position and some further background: https://www.engagebarrie.org/post/ebo-releases-brief-on-city-of-barrie-s-boundary-review-and-dispute-with-springwater-and-oro-medonte
