Talk to your candidates, advocate for human rights for all

Our partners at the Ontario Coalition for the Rights of Homeless People have launched a campaign to tell Provincial Election Candidates that Homeless People's rights matter.

They've launched the campaign here, with a letter-writing campaign, further information, and shareable graphics.

They're asking everyone to:

  • Email the candidates and ask what they and their party will do to protect the rights of unhoused people (the organization provides an easy form letter, which will be automatically sent to the candidates in your riding)

  • Find out if they have a plan to eradicate homelessness

  • (and then vote accordingly)

From their website:

Across Ontario, 80,000 people are homeless. Many are struggling to survive in encampments — all because we're not building the housing people need.

Housing is a provincial responsibility, but Ontario is building the least amount of new detached housing since 1955. Rents continue to skyrocket, and many Ontarians are unable to afford basic necessities of life.

What homeless people need isn't to be treated like criminals, or to have their rights removed. What they need is a safe, decent, affordable home.

Ontario has a provincial election on February 27th.

Tell your local candidate that you want an elected representative who will:

  1. Commit to building the housing people need and deserve; and

  2. Uphold homeless people's human rights; and

  3. Have a compassionate plan to reduce homelessness.
